Tapping into future water supplies

A £3.5 million scheme is allowing South East Water to tap into new water supplies.

The company has dug two new boreholes in East Worldham, near Alton, to reach water supplies which are stored deep underground in natural sandstone aquifers.

Two boreholes are also being drilled in neighbouring Bordon which, combined with those in East Worldham, have the potential to deliver, on average, an extra eight million litres of water every day in Hampshire.

South East Water hopes to have all four boreholes operational in 2008, once underground pipelines have been built to link them to its existing Oakhanger Water Treatment Works. Following treatment, the water will be put into the company’s supply network and sent direct to customers’ homes.
