New £17 million Water Pipeline

A new £17 million water pipeline scheme is being carried out by South East Water to protect drinking water supplies across north Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey.

Following a first phase of environmental work to help protect the ecology and native species, construction has now begun along the pipeline route from Maidenhead to the Swinley Forest area.

South East Water and its contractors, Holleran Ltd, are using 1,250 sections of steel pipe, each 13.5 metres long, which will be joined together to form the 17km long pipeline.

The new 1200mm (48 inch) diameter pipeline will run between Bray Water Treatment Works, near Maidenhead, to two of the company’s existing service reservoirs in Swinley Forest.

The new water main will enable the immediate transfer of an extra 23 million litres of water a day, and help South East Water provide drinking water supplies to the 300,000 households already in the company’s supply area, as well as new homes in the future. South East Water is aiming to complete construction of the new pipeline in 2008.
