£3 million New Reservoir for Kent
South East Water is investing more than £3 million to build a new service reservoir in Cranbrook to help secure water supplies to the Weald.
The reservoir, which will hold 10 million litres of water, is being built on land adjacent to company’s existing water storage site.
It will be constructed of reinforced concrete, with internal columns and be built partially below ground-level, surrounded by grassed embankments.
The roof of the storage reservoir will be grassed over and the land restored to is original condition on completion of the project.
The reservoir is needed to provide extra storage capacity to help ensure continuous supplies to the region, which has suffered from water shortages in the past.
Work started on the scheme in October 2007 and is expected to last 18 months.
