While we encourage our visitors to enjoy the various activities we offer at our reservoirs, please note that swimming and diving are strictly prohibited.
Why can't I swim in the reservoirs?
They may seem like an ideal place to cool off in the summer, but reservoirs have many unseen dangers:
- Their uneven depth means a few feet can quickly turn into a few hundred feet
- Freezing temperatures not only put you at risk of hyperthermia, but the effects on the body can make it impossible to swim to safety
- Reservoirs have strong currents which are not always visible, as water is being pumped in and out
- The sides of reservoirs are very steep in places, making it difficult to climb out
