The water we supply does not contain lead and none of our water mains are made of lead.
However, it is possible that you have lead pipes linking your home to our water network or lead pipes within your home.
Properties built in the 1970s and earlier are the most likely to have lead pipes - homes built since then tend to have copper or plastic pipes. If pipes in older properties have been replaced since the 1970s, lead will not have been used.
Lead does not tend to be a problem in hard water areas such as ours because a layer of limescale builds up between the pipe and the water, offering protection.
However, you may wish to consider having your water tested for lead and replacing your plumbing if necessary. Lead is harmful in large concentrations.
