After several bursts in the last five years, this project will be replacing approximately 600 metres of aging, burst prone pipe in the Shalloak Road area in order to strengthen the network, make your water supply more reliable, and reduce the amount of water lost to burst pipes in Kent.

Key facts

Location: Shalloak Road

Work: Replacing approx 600m of water main

Starts: Monday 27 April

Duration: Approx. four months

Investment: Approx. £800,000

When will work start, and how long will it take?

We’ll be starting work in Shalloak Road on Monday 27 April. We expect the work to take approximately four months. We’ll do our best to get the work done faster if we can.

Third party work on Shalloak Road

Network Rail will be carrying out maintenance on some road markings on Shalloak Road near the railway line.

They will be working on a single lane and this will include the need for a 15 minute temporary obstruction of the road whilst central road markings are placed.

The single lane working is taking place overnight on the Monday 17 August 2026 between 23:45 and 05:00 hours and access will be maintained via traffic signals which will hopefully prevent any inconvenience to road users.

Will there be roadworks?

For the safety of our team and the public, we will need to implement a rolling road closure along the route of this project.

We know road closures can be disruptive and they are a last resort, however safety is at the forefront of our minds. An evolving diversion route, agreed with Kent Highways, will be signposted for the duration and published on this webpage.

Tuesday, 28 April 2026

Project update

We’ve arrived on Shalloak Road and have begun setting up our working areas along the project route.

We are planning to make our first connection on Wednesday 6th May and some residents may have a short interruption of supply. Any affected residents will be warned in advance.

The road closure is now in place, please follow the diversion route highlighted above.

We do all we can to minimise disruption to the community when laying new water mains and always look to install pipes in locations which will cause the least disruption, such as grass verges and when in a road, as close to the verge as possible.

In the case of Shalloak Road, residents and businesses will still be able to access their property, but our team may have to make the working area safe to cross. This may mean waiting while the team does this.

We’ll be working in stages along the road and will be using a rolling road closure that will change location when our team has finished laying pipe in each section of the road.

This means the direction you enter your property may not be your usual route, or may change as we move along the road. The diversion route will be signposted for the duration of the work and will be available on this webpage.
