We’re replacing just under 1.8 kilometres of water main to reduce the number of leaks and bursts we have across our network and ensure we continue to supply top quality drinking water to the local community.
When will work start, and how long will it take?
We’ll be starting work on Monday 14 September. We expect the work to take approximately seven months. We’ll do our best to get the work done faster if we can.
Will there be roadworks?
For the safety of the public and our team, work will be carried out under a mix of road closures and temporary traffic lights as follows:
- Monday 14 September 2026: Mount Pleasant Road
Mount Pleasant Road will be closed for approximately 170 metres from the junction with Clay Hill Road. This will be for around eight weeks.
- Monday 28 September 2026: Clay Hill Road
Clay Hill Road will be closed from the junction with Mount Pleasant Road to the junction with Furnace Lane (B2169) for around four months
- Monday 4 January 2027: Junction of Clay Hill Road and Furnace Lane (B2169)
Two-way temporary traffic lights for approximately two weeks
- Monday 4 January 2027: Free Heath Road
Free Heath Road will be closed from the junction with Furnace Lane (B2169) for approximately 160 metres. This will be for approximately two months
For each closure, a diversion route will be in place and signposted for the duration of the works. The route will also be available to view on this webpage.
FAQs
We do all we can to minimise disruption to the community when laying new water mains and always look to install pipes in locations which will cause the least disruption, such as grass verges and when in a road, as close to the verge as possible.
In the case of Hook Green, residents and businesses will still be able to access their property, but we will need closures or temporary traffic lights as follows:
- Monday 14 September 2026: Mount Pleasant Road

All of these services will still be able to access properties for the duration of our work. Ahead of work starting, we advise these services of our works. Our on-site team will work with providers.
As the work will require connections to the existing network, there will be a short interruption in supply. We will notify you well in advance when this is due to happen if you are impacted by a loss of supply.
