We’re always working to improve our water network to continue to supply top quality drinking water across the south east.

We’re going to be making some improvements to the water network in the Bexhill area soon.

What's going to happen and when?

We’re going to install around 250 metres of new water mains to improve our network in the Bexhill area.

This includes around 218 metres of pipes in Summer Hill Road and 39 metres of pipes in Ellerslie Lane.

The planning for this project is underway and we’re currently aiming to start work on Monday, 1 February 2027. Our teams will work weekdays and some Saturday mornings.

We expect the project to take approximately two months in total. We’ll do our best to get the work done faster if we can.

Traffic management

For the first section of work between Monday, 1 February and Friday, 5 March, we will be working between the junction of Summer Hill Road and Ellerslie Lane to the end of Summer Hill Road and Knebworth Road, using give and take for vehicles to pass.

A road closure will then be required along a small section of Ellerslie Lane for the second phase of work, between the junction with Broad Oak Lane and the junction with Summer Hill Road.

The closure is due to be in place from Friday, 5 March until Friday, 2 April, with a diversion route in place, as agreed with East Sussex Highways.

A map showing the diversion route, which will be via Ellerslie Lane, Turkey Road, Gunters Lane, West Down Road, Little Common Road, Knebworth Road, Courthope Drive and Blackfields Avenue, can be seen below.

Frequently asked questions

We’re sorry for the disruption this work is going to cause; we know it’s inconvenient. We’ll do our absolute best to keep it to a minimum.

We’ll maintain access to homes and businesses during this work.

There may be a wait occasionally if we’re working directly outside the entrance to a property just while our team makes the area safe to cross, or complete an element of work such as a concrete pour.

There may be a short interruption to your water supply when we connect our new pipes to the existing network. We’ll let those impacted know if this is going to happen at least 48 hours beforehand.
