We’re investing £230,000 to replace around 450 metres of a burst-prone water main and improve our water supply network in Waltham St Lawrence.

The existing water main that runs along Broadmoor Road has suffered six bursts within the last five years, resulting in low pressure or no water for residents, which is unacceptable to us.

We will be replacing the existing pipeline from the junction with Shurlock Road to just after the junction with Pool Lane, starting on Monday, 9 October.

The project is expected to take 16 weeks to complete, with temporary traffic lights being used throughout the duration of the work.

Access to homes and businesses will be maintained, although there may be a short wait depending on where we are working at the time.

Work will take place during normal working hours, while there may be some activity at weekends as well.

We have now completed our work on the project, after returning to site last week to carry out the outstanding works under four-way traffic lights at the junction of Broadmoor Road, Shurlock Road and The Street.

Monday, 25 March

We have now completed all service transfers and have closed off the old water main at Pool Lane.

To complete the project, we will need to carry out a final road crossing at the Shurlock Road end, which we cannot complete at this time due to other works in the area. As such, we will need to return to site at a later date to undertake this.

We will provide a further update when we have a date of return to carry out this work.

We have now been able to make the final connection and we are working to complete the service transfers this week.

As part of this, the traffic lights have been moved up to Poole Lane to enable us to continue working on the final stages of the project.

Thursday, 14 March

We have completed the road crossing to The Paddocks, but the recent inclement weather has impacted our work and we have not been able to make the final connection to transfer services to the new main due to flooding in the area, with high water levels in the adjacent ditch caused by the significant rainfall.

This has delayed the completion of our project, but we are working hard to try and excavate to make the final connection and complete the service transfers as quickly as possible, dependent on weather conditions.

Wednesday, 28 February

We have now restarted our work in Broadmoor Road to transfer customers to the new main and complete the project.

Temporary traffic lights are now in place on Broadmoor Road from Shurlock Road towards Poole Lane and will remain in place until the work has been completed.

We are also currently working to deal with local ditch and road flooding in the area.
