We’re investing £3 million to improve and support fresh drinking water quality and supply in Charing.

The first stage of this project will be to build a new steel storage tank with a capacity of 500m3 alongside the existing tank. Once commissioned and in service, this new tank will assist Charing water treatment works in providing fresh drinking water for the Charing area while we take the older one out of service for essential maintenance.

The second stage of the project is the upgrading of the older tank. Once we can take this one out of service, we’ll carry out cleaning and maintenance and, most importantly, build a new dividing wall, to create two cells within the tank. This new wall will mean future maintenance can be carried out far more easily.

Once both stages of work have been completed, the new tank will take a supporting role to provide additional water supply during peak periods of demand.

Work is currently planned to begin in July 2024, and is expected to be completed in 2026.
