Key Facts
Location: Old Road, Squab Lane and Nodes Lane, Hailsham
Work: Replacing approx. 730 metres of pipeline
Starts: Tuesday 6 January 2026
Duration: Approx. 12 weeks
Investment: £357,000
We’re planning to replace around 730 metres of burst prone water pipes in Old Road, Squab Lane and Nodes Lane, Hailsham.
The existing main has burst multiple times in the last five years. We know this, and the impact on your supply, is unacceptable.
Together with other projects in Hailsham(opens in a new tab), this will improve the network in the area, providing us with greater flexibility and resilience in the event of an unplanned interruption.
When will work start and how long will it take?
We’re currently planning to start this project on Tuesday 6 January 2026. We expect the work to take around 12 weeks to complete.
Our team will work Monday to Friday, with weekend work if required.
Will there be roadworks?
We’ll need to close Old Road, Squab Lane and Nodes Lane to carry out this work, to keep the public and our team safe. To minimise disruption, the closures will not take place at the same time.
Accessing your property
You will be able to get to and from your home or business during this work. You may have to wait occasionally if we’re working directly outside the entrance to your property just while our team makes the area safe for you to get by, or while we complete an element of work such as a concrete pour.
The direction you enter from may not be your usual route or may change direction as we move along the road.
Diversion routes for each of these closures, agreed with East Sussex Highways, will be signposted for the duration and can be seen below.
In Nodes Lane, a no-through road, our team will work with you to maintain access as much as possible and we ask that you minimise vehicular movement to help us complete the work as quickly as possible.

There may be a short interruption to supply when we need to connect the new pipeline to the existing main. However, we’ll let anyone affected by this know at least 48 hours in advance, and whenever possible will avoid peak times of water usage.
