We have improved the capacity of the network in Tongham to ensure there is sufficient pressure in the area as the community grows.

We installed new pipework along The Street to future-proof water supplies in the area, upgrading the main to help meet the demand in the area from new development.

As a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our workforce, traffic management was in place to allow us to safely install the water main along a small section of The Street.

Following community feedback, we reviewed the scheme delivery to see if there was anything we could do to minimise the impact on the local community.

We concluded that this new main could be approximately 170 metres in length rather than the previously proposed 600 metres.

As such, the length of the road closure required was reduced to around six weeks, with the work taking place between Manor Farm and Westbroke Way in the school summer holidays to minimise the impact locally.

Work was finished three weeks early, with the project completed in just three weeks during the summer.
