Additional fundraising will now be possible for Parkside, an Aldershot charity that provides support services for children and adults with learning disabilities and autism, thanks to a donation of £2,000 from South East Water’s Community Chest.
The money is to be used to create raised beds in the charity’s garden so fruit and vegetables can be grown to sell to other members and in the local community to help raise the funds for the following year’s seeds and compost.
A total of 10 good causes across the south east are sharing a £20,000 bounty chosen by the fresh water only supplier’s volunteer judging panel from different areas of the business.
Jackie Carr, Development Manager, said: “We have a large garden which is looked after by a group of people, all with a learning disability, who come together weekly.
“A new support worker who is also a horticulturist wants to expand what the garden can offer and has some great ideas for growing produce in raised beds while working with the group on sustainability and healthy life choices.”
