AquaSmart’s mission to create young water saving heroes

2nd November 2022

South East Water has recruited three aquanauts, to help teach children how small changes in the home and at school can save water and help the environment.

Nero, Isla and Kai are the new online water saving heroes of AquaSmart, now taking pride of place on the company’s website www.aquasmart.southeastwater.co.uk

Aimed at children aged between five and seven - Key Stage One – the youngsters will learn all about water efficiency through fun missions and downloadable content.

The AquaSmart portal has five sections with activities to complete including word searches, spot the difference, creative projects and water saving quizzes, with a downloadable certificate at the end of each mission.

Tanya Sephton, Customer Services Director, South East Water, said: “AquaSmart started from a seed of an idea suggested during leadership training and has taken on a life of its own, thanks to the dedication of a team who have nurtured the project bringing the characters to life. The names Nero, Isla and Kai were also chosen in a staff competition making it a real team effort.

“Their motto - to be a heroic and a happy team who will save water and help wildlife – will be taken on by the children, and as the portal grows we will look to include activities for more ages, and make contact with schools to see how we can get them involved.

“The start of the year saw the driest eight months since 1976, with July being the driest on record. Combined with a record breaking demand for water from our customers’ means that educational messaging around the importance of saving water is more important now than ever.

“We have found that once the young generation take on board the water saving ideas, they become brilliant ambassadors in persuading their families to cut down on the amount they use.”
