Hampshire charities benefit as Community Chest spills its gold

29th April 2026

Charitable organisations across Hampshire are among a diverse range of good causes sharing a £20,000 bounty from South East Water's Community Chest Fund.

The drinking water supplier received more than 130 applications from across its supply area, which includes Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire, Sussex and Kent.

The projects chosen include Alzheimer Café(opens in a new tab), Hart Voluntary Action(opens in a new tab) and Dogs for Autism(opens in a new tab) and grants of between £1000 and £2000 have been awarded to the three organisations.

The decision on the successful applicants was taken by a panel of seven South East Water employees from all parts of the business, but all with an interest in raising money for good causes.

The Alzheimer Café in Farnborough will be using the funding to support the running of its monthly Alzheimer Café supporting those who have any type of dementia, their family and friends. Hart Voluntary Action in Fleet will use the funding to deliver water-based activity trips for young carers during the school summer holidays.

Further afield in Hampshire, the development of a new sensory space at its headquarters in Alton, is how Dogs for Autism will use the money from South East Water’s Community Chest Fund. The space will provide a dedicated calm area where clients can retreat to when feeling overwhelmed or anxious.

Tanya Sephton, Customer Services Director, South East Water said: “With a high volume of applications received this year, our judging panel had difficult decisions to make.

“The projects chosen cover a broad range of good causes that needed a little extra financial help to make a difference.

“The funding provided by our Community Chest will breathe life into these initiatives, creating a genuinely positive impact on the communities they benefit.”

Dr Gemma MM Jones, Chair, Alzheimer Café UK, said: "The trustees of the Alzheimer Café UK are delighted to accept the award from South East Water’s Community Chest funding. We'll use it to reach even more people and make our cafés this summer extra special in this, our 25th anniversary year."

Lindsay Graham, Young Carers Service Manager at Hart & Rushmoor Young Carers said: “Hart & Rushmoor Young Carers, a service of Hart Voluntary Action, are incredibly grateful to South East Water for this generous support. This donation will enable us to deliver three water sports activity trips for around 65 young carers during the summer holidays, giving them the opportunity to spend time outdoors, build confidence and enjoy a break from their caring responsibilities alongside their peers.”
