Charitable organisations across Sussex are among a diverse range of good causes sharing a £20,000 bounty from South East Water's Community Chest Fund.
The drinking water supplier received more than 130 applications from across its supply area, which includes Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire, Sussex and Kent.
The projects chosen include Friends of Brantridge School(opens in a new tab), Rocks Park Primary School(opens in a new tab), Polegate Community Association(opens in a new tab) and Royal Air Force Air Cadets - 54 Squadron(opens in a new tab), and grants of between £1000 and £2000 have been awarded to the four organisations.
The decision on the successful applicants was taken by a panel of seven South East Water employees from all parts of the business, but all with an interest in raising money for good causes.
A grant was awarded to Friends of Brantridge School in Haywards Heath to help develop a sensory garden which will provide a calming outside area that can also be used for outdoor learning opportunities for pupils at the school.
Rocks Park Primary School in Uckfield will be using its grant to regenerate its natural pond and create a bog habitat for invertebrates. This will increase biodiversity as well as provide safe habitats for species as they travel through the local pond systems and enable pupils to understand more about their natural environment.
Purchasing a rainwater harvesting system and an outdoor bench for the community garden at Polegate Community Association will ensure the garden is a welcoming and accessible space for local residents and visitors.
Royal Air Force Air Cadets - 54 Squadron in Eastbourne will be using the grant to create a wildlife friendly garden, purchase a rainwater harvesting system, a composting area and seating area which will benefit all visitors to the squadron.
Tanya Sephton, Customer Services Director, South East Water said: “With a high volume of applications received this year, our judging panel had difficult decisions to make.
“The projects chosen cover a broad range of good causes that needed a little extra financial help to make a difference.
“The funding provided by our Community Chest will breathe life into these initiatives, creating a genuinely positive impact on the communities they benefit.”
