More than £2 million is set to be invested to improve the water network between Hale and Aldershot.
South East Water will install around four kilometres of new water main to help increase the capacity of the network, with the majority of pipe to be laid in private land, although there will be work in public highways, with some road closures required.
Matthew Cooper, South East Water Project Manager said: “This is an important project for us as we look to future-proof drinking water supplies as the community grows in the area.
“We need to strengthen our network to supply water to thousands of additional properties without impacting existing customers’ supplies.
“We are very sorry for any disruption this vital project may cause and we’ll be working closely with residents and businesses in the area to minimise the impact as much as possible.”
Work is due to start on the project in April 2024 in Sandy Hill Road in Hale, with work also taking place in Bourley Road and Farnborough Road, near Aldershot, around the same time.
A rolling road closure will be in place on Sandy Hill Road, with a road closure on Farnborough Road (up to the junction with Pennefather’s Road) and two-way traffic lights on Bourley Road respectively.
In September next year, work is due to commence within private land, with the project due to be completed in March 2025.
Access will be maintained for recreational use at all times, with minor diversions in place when required. We are working with landowners, managers and regulators to ensure the right environmental mitigation is in place.
A drop-in event is planned to take place on Wednesday, 27 September between 4.30pm and 7pm at Hale Community Centre, where South East Water’s project team will be in attendance to answer questions.
