Keeping runners' thirst quenched

17th May 2022

A water company kept runners’ thirst quenched during the 30th anniversary of a popular community run.

South East Water provided hundreds of litres of water to this year’s Hook Fun Run in Hook, Hampshire, following a request from the organisers.

Matthew Cooper, Project Manager at South East Water, said: “We’re always keen to do everything we can to help out in the community.

“It’s important to stay hydrated when you’re out running so I’m delighted we were able to provide this facility.

“I’d also like to congratulate everyone who took part in the event.”

The race, which took place on Sunday, May 15, saw participants tackle a choice of 10 mile, 10 kilometre or 2.25 mile runs.

South East Water provided bottled water and paper cups for runners as a thank you for any disruption caused by its £11 million project to install new pipe between Fleet and Odiham, Hook.

The vital project, which will see more than 11 kilometres of pipe installed in total, will increase the capacity of the water network and allow the company to provide more water to the area as the population grows.

Matthew added: “We understand this work has been disruptive to the local area and we’re really sorry for any inconvenience caused.

“Our workforce is making fantastic progress and more than half of the total pipe has been installed to date.”
