Major water network revamp hits significant milestone

25th March 2022

A vital, multi-million-pound project to install more than 11 kilometres of new water main between Fleet and Odiham, Hampshire, reached a new milestone this week.

South East Water has been laying new pipe within Bagwell Lane and The Hurst, Odiham and Fleet Road, Fleet to increase the capacity of its water network.

Earlier this week, the company completed work in Fleet Road – several days ahead of schedule.

Meanwhile, work in The Hurst finished on Friday 18 March and the road closures in both roads have now been lifted.

Matthew Cooper, South East Water Project Manager, said: “This is another fantastic milestone in our £11 million project and I am pleased we have been able to lay these two sections of pipeline ahead of our schedule.

“The team has faced a range of challenges on this project and I am grateful for their hard work in overcoming them.”

The company has been working closely with the community to minimise disruption where possible, including working with the team at Fleet Half Marathon to ensure its traffic management would not impact runners last weekend.

South East Water is still working within Bagwell Lane, Odiham, where more than three kilometres of pipe is being installed.

It was hoped this section would be complete by 22 March but bad weather has hampered the construction team’s progress.

Matthew continued: “We’re coming to the end of the Bagwell Lane section now and we anticipate our work in the area will be completed by 8 April.

“We are sorry for the delay which has been caused by factors completely out of our control. As soon as work in the area is complete we will lift the road closure and traffic will be able to use Bagwell Lane as normal.”

The next phase of the project will see South East Water working within Winchfield Road, known locally as Station Road, Winchfield and Elvetham Heath Way, Elvetham Heath. Multi-way traffic lights will be installed in Elvetham Heath Way on Monday 28 March to keep motorists and pedestrians safe.

The company will also be working within private land alongside Pale Lane and between Dunleys Hill and Poland Lane.

More information, regular updates and a timetable for the upcoming phases can be found on the company’s dedicated webpage: southeastwater.co.uk/fleet

This project forms part of South East Water’s £433 million investment into improving its water network between 2020 and 2025.
