Paddock Wood water main upgrade

18th January 2024

Residents of Paddock Wood have been invited to a public meeting to discuss a £900,000 investment in fresh drinking water mains upgrades this year by South East Water.

A public drop-in session has been scheduled for Wednesday, 7 February from 3:30pm to 7.00pm at Paddock Wood Community Centre. This session will have South East Water staff in attendance to answer questions about the work which is due to be carried out during school holidays to minimise disruption.

After completing an upgrade on Mascalls Court Road in 2023, a two-phase upgrade has been unveiled for a project in Gedges Hill and Chantler’s Hill.

Jeremy Dufour, Project Manager for South East Water, said: "We are pleased to be continuing work in Paddock Wood.

“We know that as the community grows, demand for water naturally increases and this could result in low pressure across the area.

“By laying this new pipeline, we’re ensuring that supply and pressure can be maintained and all customers can continue to enjoy top quality drinking water.”

To minimise disruption, work is scheduled to take place during the school holidays, with the first phase of work set to begin on Thursday 28 March and run for two weeks in the Easter break.

Phase two will start on Tuesday 23 July and is expected to take six weeks in the summer holidays.

During this time, both Gedges Hill and Chantler’s Hill will be closed to ensure the safety of the public and South East Water’s workforce. However, local businesses in the area will still be open for customers to enjoy and any disruption to motorists will be minimalised by clear road signage and diversions.

Jeremy added: "We know road closures can be disruptive and frustrating, but safety is our top priority while we carry out these vital works.

“Access for residents and businesses will be maintained, but the roads will be closed to through traffic.

“Our team will be working extended hours to make sure we stay within the school holidays periods, working from 7.00am to 7.00pm on weekdays and from 8.00am to 4.00pm on Saturdays.”
