Shorter showers

A four minute shower instead of a bath will save water and money on your energy bills. Grab a free four minute timer and water efficient showerhead HERE.

To be a Water Saving Hero, keep a bucket in the shower to collect the cold water as you wait for it to warm up (and then re-use it in your garden or to wash your car).

Ifs and butts

If you have a water butt, you can collect rainfall during the wetter months to water your garden throughout summer. Better than hoses and sprinklers for the plants, the planet and your purse.

Tap into wasted water

Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, shaving or washing your hands will save litres of water every day.

Apply for a free toothy timer for your child HERE to teach them good teeth brushing habits, and to remind them to always turn the tap off when not using the water.

Load up

Wait until you have a full load before using your washing machine or dishwasher. Wash at 30 degrees or use the 'eco' setting if your machine has one.

Drink up

Unfinished drinks and ice cubes can all be used to water plants. Don't forget to empty part-used water bottles in the garden, before refilling with fresh tap water for school or work.

Dig this

Use mulch, like bark chippings, to retain moisture and opt for drought-tolerant plants. In summer, water plants early in the morning or during the evening when it is cooler, with less chance of water evaporating. Order free water saving gel for plants HERE.

Go green

When you need to replace your washing machine or dishwasher, buy the most water and energy-efficient model you can afford. Look for ECO labelling.

Don't be a drip!

Turn off taps properly when finished using them, and fix a leaky tap as soon as it starts to drip to save water and money on your bills.

A dripping tap can waste as much as 24 litres of water a day.
